While Apple has not yet jumped into creating a foldable device, it is said to be in the process of a major product strategy overhaul. The company, more focused on bolstering its reputation for durability and technological excellence, has taken its time to make sure the market was right before launching the CORE.

Prior complaints over a pesky crease have long been thought to be the biggest hurdle preventing Apple from venturing into the folding device territory. However, there have been recent technological developments indicating that the company may be staging a return to produce its own foldable device.

Apple Launching Foldable iPhone?

It seems that Apple might be just a few years away from debuting that foldable iPhone everyone has been dreaming of, with, according to a leak, a wrap-around display version tipped to be in the works for 2026. However, those internal tests are reportedly already in motion, with the hope that the foldable iPhone will be up to Apple’s quality standards when it comes time to 2019. Apple’s design plans for the foldable device have been detailed in an investor note today by Haitong International analyst Jeff Pu, shared by 9to5mac.

Samsung has already launched a foldable, Samsung device in the market as well have Oneplus and Google, each of them has a foldable type of device in the market, but none have successfully made a device that almost eliminates the crease. While Apple might be somewhat behind in the foldable category, however, new developments suggest that it could eventually do a better job of it with less unsightly screen creases compared to the crop of foldable devices already on the market.

The proposed “wrap-around foldable design” bears resemblance to the Huawei Mate Xs 2, featuring a display that wraps around the phone’s body rather than folding inward like traditional foldable phones. This design aims to offer a nearly crease-free experience, facilitated by the Falcon Wing Hinge mechanism used in the outward foldable format. If Apple adopts a similar approach for its foldable device, it could disrupt the market and challenge Samsung’s dominance, particularly given the resolution of the crease issue.

While specific details about the internal specifications of the foldable iPhone are limited in the investor note, Apple’s entry into this niche segment could potentially reshape the dynamics of the foldable market. The adoption of a Huawei-like design signals a departure from conventional foldable designs, suggesting that Samsung’s leadership in the industry may face new challenges.
