Florentino Perez overtakes Santiago Bernabeu for the most Champions League trophies as president

Florentino Perez has now surpassed the legendary Santiago Bernabeu as the Real Madrid president with the most Champions League trophies under his reign.

Los Blancos defeated Borussia Dortmund 2-0 at Wembley Stadium to earn their 15th Champions League title. Since his arrival in 2000, Perez has led the club to seven Champions Leagues, helping them earn more than double the tally of AC Milan, who have the second most titles at 7.

Florentino Perez sets new record as Real Madrid president

Perez has done a remarkable job transforming the club’s structure and transfer policy, making things as sustainable as possible. Although they have spent big money on transfers in certain cases (eg: Jude Bellingham and Aurelien Tchouameni), most of their recent business has been via free transfers.

Not only have they managed to respect their existing players and phase out their old guard, but they have also built the foundations for dominance over the coming decade, recruiting some of the best young players in the world.

And all of this has been achieved while complying with LaLiga’s strict financial restrictions. Florentino Perez’s contributions to the history of the club for a quarter of a century will surely be remembered for a long time, as he surpasses one of the club’s esteemed legends in a major tally.
