Rumor Mill: 12.9-Inch iPad Air Set to Feature Mini-LED Display

Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, recently provided some revelations that could offer a preview of what Apple has in store for every subsequent iPad Air refresh. Per Young, there is persuasive proof that a 12.9-inch iPad Air’s anticipated debut may occur in May. A substantial change for the 10.9-inch iPad Air is warranted, with it featuring a mini-LED panel and a new Liquid Crystal Display in the 12.9-inch Pro.

More About the 12.9-inch iPad Air

Not only do the new panels extend the existing iPad experience, but they also have the potential for greater brilliance in hitherto made accessible articles and darker blacks. These displays may also generate increasing vibrant colors or more outstanding contrast because the preceding design tends to be more pessimistic on HDR measurements.

Moreover, Young points out that by leveraging leftover mini-LED display panels from the iPad Pro, Apple can offer these improvements while also potentially benefiting from reduced manufacturing costs.

Although a reduction in power consumption is among the touted advantages of mini-LED displays, offering a lengthier battery life to the users of portable devices may be expected. For the record, the Apple iPad Air or the 10.9-inch variant of the tablet does not boast a panel enough of the size due to the lack of an inventory of 10.9-inch mini-LED display panels already available.

The next generation of iPad Pro models, on the other hand, is likely to move to OLED displays. OLED offers multiple advantages over both LCD and mini-LED, including incredible contrast ratios, and being capable of achieving true blacks because the individual pixel can still be shut off entirely.

Having accurately predicted an assortment of Apple product rumors like Young’s of display-related company affairs, his remarks should be given credence regarding the iPad Air 5. Even so, fans must wait for Apple’s endorsement of the product before May to see if the new devices would introduce any major display innovations.
