In the summer transfer window of 2019, Manchester United fans were promised, Paulo Dybala. In the summer transfer window building up to the 20/21 season of the Premier League, Manchester United fans were promised one of the world’s brightest talent in the form of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund.
During the winter transfer window of the 19/20 season, Manchester United fans were promised Erling Haaland from RB Salzburg, but the Norwegian has since joined Sancho at Dortmund.
According to a shocking revelation, it has been revealed that Manchester United’s Ed Woodward was in pole position to complete the signing of the Norweigan wonderkid for an absolute bargain of £20 million.
However, as has happened time and time again when it comes to United fans being promised star signings, Ed Woodward pulled out from the race to sign Haaland because of a high agent fee and the obligation to include a release clause in the striker’s contract, something that Dortmund clearly did not have a problem with.
As of now, Haaland has a €75 million release clause in his contract at Dortmund. However, no club can pay that fee for Haaland before 2022, when the clause becomes active.
Multiple media reports stated that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had completely convinced Haaland to join him at Old Trafford, but Ed Woodward let the opportunity slip from his hands. He has now seen his stock fall even further among United fans following the disappointing performance in the 20/21 summer transfer window as well.
The Sancho transfer saga has not been received kindly by the United faithful. This revelation in the chase for one of the most prolific young strikers in the world is surely one that will invoke fans to a higher degree.
United made the signings of Donny Van de Beek, Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani during the 20/21 summer transfer window.
