Chelsea are planning to sell Trevoh Chalobah in the summer, and not Benoit Badiashile. The French defender has been plagued with injuries this season, just like Chalobah. But the latter represents pure profit, being a Cobham academy graduate, and is more likely to be moved on.
Badiashile’s start to life at Stamford Bridge was quite solid, after his move from Monaco last winter. But his confidence has been visibly shaken this season, with the 23-year-old prone to making errors at the back now.
Benoit Badiashile to stay at Chelsea; Chalobah on the transfer list
Chelsea will have to invest in a new centre-back in the summer, with Thiago Silva expected to leave when his contract expires in June. The veteran will be joined by Chalobah, leaving Disasi, Colwill, Badiashile, Fofana (who will be returning from injury) and Alfie Gilchrist as the only senior central defenders in the squad.
Adding leadership to the back should be one of the priorities for Chelsea. And in the process, they must sign an experienced replacement for Silva and Chalobah.
On the other hand, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi could rekindle their partnership from their time at Monaco. And with Fofana back in the mix, the team could benefit massively with a leader in the locker room.
