The Maharashtra Government’s Local Complaints Committee has ruled in favour of actress Jennifer Mistry, directing Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Show producer Asit Kumar Modi to pay her ₹5 lahks along with outstanding dues accrued from her work, totalling approximately ₹25 lahks with interest. Modi has been found culpable for harassment against women.

Jennifer revealed to E-Times that the ruling was received on February 15, 2024. Despite the verdict, she has yet to receive her due payments and has decided to bring this issue to light through media channels. Expressing her dissatisfaction, she emphasized the lack of punitive measures against Modi and criticized the police’s inaction.
While pleased with the financial order, Jennifer expressed disappointment over the absence of repercussions for producer Asit Kumar Modi. She reiterated her stance, asserting the decision vindicated her claims of harassment.
Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal, known for her role as Rohan Bhabhi in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah Show, accused Asit Kumar Modi of sexual harassment in May 2024. Apart from Modi, she also accused executive producer Jatin Bajaj and project head, Sohail Ramani. Allegations ranged from mistreatment leading to her departure from the show to repeated inappropriate advances, including an incident in Singapore where Modi purportedly expressed a desire to kiss her.
The actress recounted an unsettling encounter, stating, “Asit Modi once suggested, ‘If you’re without a roommate at night, join me for whiskey in my room.’ As tensions rose, my screen time diminished. Last year, when I requested leave, Modi dismissed my concerns, jesting, ‘Don’t cry, darling. If you were here, I’d hug and flirt with you.’ Initially, Modi brushed off his advances as jokes, but her lawyer advised against silence, urging her to take action.
Jennifer recalled an incident where Modi attempted to trap her on set by closing the gate. Responding to rumours of a sexual relationship, she clarified, “Some media outlets are falsely claiming I had relations with Modi. That’s untrue. He made suggestive remarks, but there was no intimacy.” Assuring ongoing police investigation, she emphasized, “I want to clarify: there was no sexual involvement; it was inappropriate behaviour.”
