Despite his impressive performance, Gulveer was unable to meet the Olympic qualification standard, falling short of the Paris Games qualifying time of 27:00.00 by over 41 seconds.

Kartik Kumar, another Indian participant in the same heat, ended up ninth in the race, clocking a time of 28:01.90, which was also superior to Surendra’s previous national record.

Meanwhile, Avinash Sable, competing in the same event, did not complete his heat and withdrew from the competition during the 15th lap at the 6,000m point.

In the women’s 10,000m race, Parul Chaudhary came in a disappointing 20th place with a time of 32:02.08, also failing to meet the Paris qualification time of 30:40.00.

Who is Gulveer Singh?

Born on June 1, 1998, Gulveer Singh is a prominent figure in Indian athletics, particularly known for his achievements in long-distance running. He first came into the limelight when he clinched a bronze medal in the 10,000-metre race at the 2022 Asian Games. Singh recently made headlines by breaking a national record in the men’s 10,000m event that had stood for 16 years, finishing second in The Ten event held in San Juan Capistrano, California.
