The 2020 Huawei Developer Conference was held on 10th September, in Songshan Lake, Dongguan. In this event, Huawei officially revealed the HarmonyOS 2.0. According to the company, this new software will be debuted in the Huawei smartphone, which will arrive in December 2020.
Along with the Huawei Smart Screens, which already use the HarmonyOS, devices like tabs and watches will also get this. As per Huawei’s word, the new HarmonyOS 2.0 is the first distributed OS that is specially built for the full-scenario era. This will enable voice interaction through cross-device collaboration, large and small screen interaction, fast network distribution, adaptive UI, and visual/utterable AI.
According to ITHome, the smartphone with this new software may include the successor to the current P30 flagship series. There are some potential upsides for the company. For example, the company using its own software in smartphones, it may allow for a more complete.
Also, the HarmonyOS 2.0 will be open source. All the developers will get emulators, SDK packages, and IDE tools. Lastly, the beta version of the OS for smartphones will be available to the Chinese developers in the beginning.
In the 2020 Huawei Developer Conference event, Yu Chengdong said that they donated the source code to China’s Open Source Foundation and also announced the roadmap: “From September 10, HarmonyOS will be open source for 128KB-128MB terminal devices such as large screens, watches, and automobiles, and in April 2021, it will be open source for 128MB-4GB of memory. The end devices are open source and will be open source for all devices over 4GB after October 2021”.
It’s very much clear that Huawei is trying its best to survive after the US ban. It cans make any deal with any US-based company, can’t use any US-own technology, and more. Besides, probably Samsung and LG are also coming backward to supply displays to Huawei.
