IPL 2020 has started a few days ago. There are three venues that are decided for IPL: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah. So, some of the teams of IPL who are based out of Dubai have raised concerns about their training campaigns as a few ICC staffs have tested positive for COVID-19. More precisely, there are six IPL teams based out in Dubai and they are practising at the ICC Academy grounds located in Dubai Sports City.
Though all the payers of each team are in a bio-secure bubble condition and the board is taking every measure regarding their safety. The BCCI officials have also assured that the ICC Academy is completely safe to continue their training. The officials added a particular phrase “safe for training” regarding the ICC Academy grounds as they are located some distance away from the apex body headquarters.
“The ICC Academy is perfectly safe because neither it is adjacent to the office headquarters nor are there is any ICC staff who is present at the practice session. So there is no question of ay health scare as far as IPL teams are concerned,” a senior board source told on the condition of anonymity.
The ICC staffs who are COVID-19 positive are now in strict mandatory isolation as per the United Arab Emirates’ health protocols. In order to maintain strict health protocols, the ICC headquarters would remain closed for a few days and the staff would work from home, as the entire premises is being sanitized for operations to restart.
“It has been managed very well by the ICC as they were prepared considering the second surge of cases in the UAE,” one of the board officials said.
It is not sure how many positive cases are there because there was no official communication with the ICC. International Cricket Council (ICC) has only confirmed that there have been a few positive cases, but they are maintaining proper health protocols for the sake of the rest of the members and the IPL teams.
