Giovanni Reyna is set to sign for Nottingham Forest on loan until the end of the season. The American is expected to complete his medical for the transfer imminently, which will see him announced as one of the many deadline day signings that the Tricky Trees have made. This comes in spite of their recent Profit and Sustainability Rules breach, which could force the club into a points deduction.

Forest will cover the player’s full salary until the end of the season and will have the option to make the move permanent if they wish to do so.

Giovanni Reyna signs for Nottingham Forest on loan

Reyna’s journey in professional football began at a young age, with his early development in the youth ranks of New York City FC in the United States. However, his breakthrough came when he made the move to Borussia Dortmund’s youth academy in 2019, a decision that proved pivotal for his career. Shortly after joining the German club, Reyna found himself making strides in the first team.

A highly versatile player, Reyna is often deployed as an attacking midfielder but possesses the ability to play in various positions across the forward line. Blessed with exceptional technical skills, vision, and an eye for goal, he quickly earned a reputation for being a playmaker and a goal-scoring threat. His ability to read the game, exploit spaces, and create goal-scoring opportunities has made him a key asset for both Borussia Dortmund and the United States national team.

Reyna’s breakthrough into the first team at Borussia Dortmund came with notable performances in domestic and international competitions. He demonstrated remarkable composure on the ball, coupled with an impressive goal-scoring instinct. His standout qualities include precise passing, dribbling prowess, and the ability to execute crucial plays in high-pressure situations.

However, injuries halted his progress and have caused a downfall in recent years. After only making 13 appearances this season, he has decided to make the move to seek regular game time after being snubbed by manager Edin Terzic.

It now remains to be seen if he can help Forest survive the drop, even though they might face a points deduction that might limit their chances of survival. And it now remains to be seen if he can adapt to the physical nature of the Premier League while also competing with a stacked squad for game time.
