Xavi Hernandez has announced that he will be leaving Barcelona at the end of the season, after the 5-3 loss to Villarreal. The club legend will leave the club for a second time, after admitting that results haven’t been up to the mark this season.
The club is currently 10 points behind the top place in LaLiga, and is out of the Copa del Rey. They also lost the Supercopa de Espana final against Real Madrid in a 4-1 scoreline, with Vinicius Jr scoring a hat-trick.
Xavi Hernandez announces he will leave Barcelona
“I don’t want to be a problem. I want to be a solution for Barça as I was two years ago,” said Xavi.
“I had taken it days ago but today was the moment to announce it,” he added.
“I want to announce that on June 30 I will no longer continue as the coach at Barça. I think the situation needs to change course, and as a culer, I cannot allow the current situation.”
In spite of winning the LaLiga title last season, things have been very difficult for Xavi this time around. The constant injuries have taken their toll on the manager, with a regular playing eleven proving to be elusive. Injuries to Gavi and Marc Andre ter Stegen have been the most crucial ones, leaving them unable to build on last season’s defensive performances.
And in spite of averaging over 2 points per game since taking charge, we are now left wondering who will replace Xavi in the summer.
