Much like the men’s first team, Chelsea have now started spending big with the women’s team, signing Mayra Ramirez from Levante for a British record fee worth €450,000. The Blues have officially unveiled the striker as their new signing for the January transfer window, adding more firepower to their attack.
In addition to the €450,000, Levante could receive up to €50,000 in the form of add-ons for the sale of the forward in the coming years. She overtakes Jill Roord, who previously held the record for joining Manchester City from Wolfsburg in 2023 for over €300,000.
Mayra Ramirez Signs for Chelsea in Record Transfer
The Colombian has scored six times in seven games for the Liga F side this season. And the move to England takes her to one of the best women’s teams in the world, albeit in the final season of renowned manager Emma Hayes.
In spite of representing Levante in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League, she is eligible to play for Chelsea from the quarter final onwards. And as a result, she will be a like-for-like replacement for Sam Kerr, who is currently sidelined with a major injury.
With Catarina Macario also sidelined with an ACL injury, Mayra Ramirez’s signing was necessary for the Blues to reinforce their squad. And with the 24-year-old now a part of their team, they can continue their hunt for silverware for the remainder of the season with a recognised centre-forward.
