Hannibal Mejbri loan update: Sevilla and Everton battle it out to sign Man Utd youngster

Everton and Sevilla are battling it out to sign Manchester United’s Hannibal Mejbri on loan in the January transfer window. A deal with the Spanish side was almost complete before Everton stepped in to try and hijack the transfer.

The two clubs are now at odds to land the young midfielder for the remaining half of the season. Prior to the interest from Everton, Freiburg and Lyon were also in the race to sign the player, but Mejbri chose to move to Spain.

Sevilla had included a loan with the option to buy, alongside a buyback clause for Manchester United as part of their proposal. With Everton now in the mix, things could change in the coming days if they can offer a better proposal.

A loan move in January was one of the main reasons Hannibal Mejbri didn’t make it to AFCON with the Tunisian national team. He has only played seven times for Manchester United this season, and has impressed on multiple occasions. And after failing to see game time regularly, a move away is seemingly the right call for all parties involved.

Sevilla remain in pole position to wrap up the deal for the time being, but they could miss out on the 20-year-old since they hadn’t finalised the transfer before Everton’s involvement.
