PS5 Sold Over 50 Million Units
According to the new announcement made by Sony recently, its PS5 has surpassed over 50 million copies globally. This announcement was made through an official press release, mentioning and hence clarifying that this number is the actual units sold to customers.
This doesn’t include the copies of the gaming console that are just shipped. Another interesting fact is that now PS5 is coming closer to the sales of the PS4.
After the new milestone of sales made by PS5, it is tracking time–aligned sales of the PS4 worldwide. This fact was brought to light by Christopher Ding of Eurogamer.
Before, in July he said that the gaming was tracking just two months behind the PlayStation 4. And now it has stated that PlayStation 5 is behind one week to achieve the sales record made by PS4.

“Achieving this PS5 sales milestone is a testament to the unwavering support of the global PlayStation community and their passion for the incredible experiences created by the talented from PlayStation Studios and our partners. We’re grateful for all of our players who have joined the PS5 journey so far, and we’re thrilled that this is the first holiday season since launch that we have a full supply of PS5 consoles – so anyone who wants to get one can get one.”
As you may know, the PlayStation 5 was launched in the year 2020 and after its release faced one major problem. That was of the high demand and issue of semiconductor shortages delaying the delivery of the gaming console.
However, recently the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced that the company has tackled this problem. So now they have ample supply of the gaming console and anyone can order it at any time and get their gaming consoles on time.
Regarding this, Jim Ryan stated,
“PS5 supply has improved toward the end of last year, and I’m happy to share that December was the biggest month ever for PS5 console sales and that we have now sold more than 30 million units to consumers worldwide. Everyone who wants a PS5 should have a much easier time finding one at retailers globally, starting from this point forward”
