Bayern Munich were handed their first loss of the 23/24 Bundesliga season as Eintracht Frankfurt ran riot against the defending champions. They picked up a 5-1 win at home and climbed up to seventh in the Bundesliga table, earning three huge points in the process.Â
Tensions have been high since Bayern’s 0-0 draw against Copenhagen in the Champions League. And even though they have qualified for the Champions League knockout stages already, the goalless draw against the Danish side was nothing short of a subpar performance.

The Bavarians had their game against Union Berlin called off last weekend due to heavy snowfall. And the lack of football for a weekend showed, as the defending champions were sluggish in their approach.
The young attackers fielded by Eintracht completely outran their opponents, and they were 3-1 up by the time they went back into the dressing room for halftime. A solitary goal from Joshua Kimmich was consolation for the travelling fans. But, the second half saw Frankfurt strike twice in ten minutes again, piling on even more misery.Â
The absence of a defensive midfielder was strongly felt in Bayern Munich’s line-up. And they will be active in the January transfer window to bolster that position. On the other hand, questions will also be asked of Thomas Tuchel and whether Bayern have really progressed under him since he replaced Julian Nagelsmann.Â
The former Chelsea manager has called for a strong reaction from his players in their next match against Manchester United in the Champions League. And it now remains to be seen whether the players will step up to the challenge and regain their momentum.
