After their 4-0 loss against Mumbai City FC at home, Bengaluru FC have officially sacked Simon Grayson. His assistant, Neil McDonald, has also been relieved of his duties in the aftermath of the loss. The Englishman spent one and a half years with the club, where he helped them win the Durand Cup and finished as the runner-up of the ISL last season, making it into the finals after defeating Mumbai City FC but losing to ATK Mohun Bagan.
The club has had to endure a challenging start to the season, where they remain ninth in the table, with only seven points from nine games. Their last, and only win this season came against East Bengal in Round 3, after they picked up a hard fought 2-1 win. Since then, they have drawn against Punjab FC, NorthEast United, FC Goa and Hyderabad FC.
Bengaluru FC sack Simon Grayson after only 1 win in 9 games
“Bengaluru Football Club and Head Coach Simon Grayson have mutually agreed to part ways, the club announced on Saturday. Assistant Coach Neil McDonald will also depart the club,” the club said in their official statement.
“The club would like to thank Grayson for his time at Bengaluru FC, that included a remarkable turnaround in the League last season, and for adding the Durand Cup to Bengaluru’s trophy cabinet. The club wishes him nothing but the best for his future.
“Renedy Singh will take charge of the team for the forthcoming games, while the club looks to appoint a new Head Coach shortly.”
It remains unclear as to who will become the new head coach of the club at this stage. But, former assistant coach Gerard Zaragoza has been rumoured as one of the possibilities to replace Grayson.
