A major Bollywood clash happened on 1st December. The power-pack action drama Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘Animal‘ and the patriotic biopic of Vicky Kaushal’s ‘Sam Bahadur’ faced a big clash at the box office. Vicky Kaushal’s Sam Bahadur has been rated ‘A’ with a longer runtime.
In between the trades, experts believe that ‘Animal’ holds the potential to outperform ‘Sam Bahadur’. The movie of Ranbir Kapoor also surpasses Vicky Kaushal’s feature film in terms of bookings and opening day revenues. The trade experts Ramesh Bala and Akshaye Rathi are already aware of the big box office clash.
Animal Vs Sam Bahadur: Who Will Give Better Performance?
Akshaye Rathi said, “It’s a scenario that will make you feel like a sense of deja vu. Earlier also, we saw ‘Gadar 2’ and ‘OMG 2’ clashing on August 15. Both were films that came with a lot of anticipation, and they were very different from each other. Both of them eventually did well. It is a similar scenario here. ‘Animal’ will open like a tsunami, while ‘Sam Bahadur’ is a film that will bring about a lot of credibility and dignity. ‘Animal’ might have a bigger opening than ‘Sam Bahadur’, but it can get better with good word-of-mouth.”
Ramesh Bala also agreed that Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film will acquire more than Meghna Gulzar’s. “The film ‘Animal’ will have better traction than ‘Sam Bahadur’ because of the genre. It is a mass-oriented, youth commercial film. ‘Sam Bahadur’ is more of a niche pattern movie. ‘Animal’ will certainly do better than ‘Sam Bahadur’ at the box office too. Already the bookings reflect that Ranbir’s film is way ahead. It will open at a much higher level,” he added.
By providing the box office figures, Ramesh Bala included, “I am expecting ‘Animal’ to open at Rs 40 crore in Hindi. If you add the South collection, it has the potential to collect around Rs 50 crore net on Day 1. On the other hand, ‘Sam Bahadur’ might only earn about Rs 5-7 crore nett on the opening day in India.”
In between this, Bala predicts that ‘Animal’ could get more than Rs 400 crore in India. In between this, ‘Sam Bahadur’ might return across Rs 100 crore if they provide good content.

While the release date for ‘Sam Bahadur’ was announced a year ago, the makers of ‘Animal’ postponed their film and chose the same date. Perhaps it was easier to compete with Meghana Gulzar’s film than to take on Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’. But is this clash healthy?
Offering his insights, Ramesh Bala stated, “Generally, clashes aren’t healthy, but this time, the genres differ. ‘Animal’ belongs to a completely different genre; it’s a mass-oriented movie. Meanwhile, ‘Sam Bahadur’ is a patriotic film. ‘Animal’ has a higher release potential, while ‘Sam Bahadur’ will have a smaller release. The audience for both films will be different. Hopefully, both films have good content to attract a wide audience.”
In between this Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal enhance massive followings. Akshaye Rathi also said, “We are currently in an era where an actor’s star power is determined by the film’s quality and the audience it caters to. Take, for instance, Akshay Kumar, who opened ‘Selfiee’ with Rs 2.5 crore and ‘OMG’ with Rs 8 crore. Has Akshay Kumar’s stardom increased or decreased with these films? They cater to different audiences—some messy, others niche. ‘Sam Bahadur’ might see a modest opening due to its genre, but it’s expected to gain momentum over time.”
