Manchester City 1-1 Liverpool: Reds end winning streak at home for treble winners

Manchester City and Liverpool played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium to end the hosts’ run of 22 straight home wins. They were on course to match the record for the most consecutive home victories with 23, but were stopped by their rivals who were determined to not go down without a fight.

After doubts surrounding his involvement in the build-up to the game, Erling Haaland started the match for Manchester City and played all 90+ minutes. The Norwegian scored in the first half to become the fastest in history to score 50 Premier League goals in only 48 games.

Both teams started the second half positively, with City conjuring up several chances to extend their lead. But, they couldn’t come close to converting them. Ruben Dias thought he had scored a second, but his goal was ruled out by VAR with Manuel Akanji deemed to have fouled Alisson in the build-up.

On the other end, Trent Alexander-Arnold scored his first goal of the season in the big fixture, after a slick through ball from Mohamed Salah.

While Jurgen Klopp turned to his bench to add more firepower with the likes of Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott brought on, Guardiola did not make a single substitution.

The result sees City remain at the top of the table while the Reds are now only one point behind their rivals and back in the title race.
