The semifinals of the ICC World Cup 2023 are now only days away, with the top four teams locked for a place in the finals. The first semifinal will see hosts India take on New Zealand in a repeat of the 2019 edition, where the Kiwis went on to the final but fell short against eventual champions and then-hosts, England.
And after being led to a miraculous win against Afghanistan by Glen Maxwell, Australia will face South Africa after their third placed finish.
ICC World Cup 2023 semifinals confirmed: Here’s what you need to know
The first semifinal was played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, the site of India’s famous World Cup win in 2011. The boys in Blue were the favourites, having qualified for the last four with a 100% record in their nine games from the group stage.
But New Zealand posed a significant threat, considering how consistent they have been in the key stages of the tournament over the last few years.
The second semifinal will see Australia face off against South Africa in what promises to be a massive game between two giants of the sport. Playing at the Eden Gardens, South Africa will be wary of not falling prey to spin at the Kolkata-based stadium after being bowled out by India.
Semifinal 1 will be played on November 15, while the second will be played on November 16 with the two winners set to meet in the finals of the ICC World Cup 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, November 19.
