Valve finally releases SteamVR 2.0 update with new features

Valve is finally giving folks who want to play their VR games on Steam some love. SteamVR 2.0, which was recently released, has finally brought its virtual reality interface in line with the more recent Steam and Steam Deck. The company showcased this update when it entered beta a month ago, and it should be available to all users soon.

Here’s whats new in the SteamVR 2.0 update

A side toolbar featuring tabs for users’ libraries, the Steam store, friends, and downloads is included in the redesigned UI. The side panel is roughly comparable to the existing layout of the Steam Deck.

Users may instantly get a sense of the battery life on their individual VR remotes and access notifications at the bottom of the new VR dashboard. Users can now access Steam Chat and Voice Chat from the main SteamVR dashboard, which is a useful tool.

Users can now text with two cursors from both controllers thanks to the drop-down keyboard. More languages are now supported by the keyboard, and you can finally send emojis to pals via the chat client. If Valve ever allows users to rapidly share GIFs to friends, Steam chat will have finally arrived in the 2020s.

There are also the normal bug fixes and enhancements, such as a button to toggle multitasking view on Windows 10 and 11 desktop overlays. Desktop windows should have the same icon as well as the same name.

The most recent significant upgrade in September brought OpenXR extension support for developers, but there hasn’t been a substantial overhaul of the SteamVR ecosystem in years, especially since Valve seemed to have focused all of their attention on building the Steam Deck.
