Minister of Electronics and Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar confirmed the news. He declared that the Tata Group had successfully closed a deal with Wistron Group for this, and that the Tata Group will begin producing iPhones in India in 2.5 years for both the domestic and international markets.

As per the minister’s sharing of a statement from the Taiwan-based supplier, the Wistron board approved the sale of Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing India Private Limited to Tata Electronics Private Limited for an approximate sum of $125 million.

The manufacturing alliance with Tata Group will assist Apple in its recent efforts to relocate its production environment outside of China. It will also result in a more extensive move of Apple’s production facilities to India. Industry estimates place Wistron’s iPhone exports from India between April and June at close to $500 million.

Industry estimates indicate that Apple’s sales to India reached a record high of $6 billion in FY23, an increase of roughly 45%. An estimate of the company’s exports from India exceeds $5 billion.

The Scheme for the Promotion of Manufacturing of Electronic Components and Semiconductors has also seen the Tata Group among its principal benefactors.
