AMD FSR3 currently only supports two games, for now at least. Immortals of Aveum, the only other game with FSR3, will receive the update later today, while Forspoken, one of the two games with AMD FSR3 support, already has it. Players using Radeon Rx 7000 and 6000 series graphics cards will now be able to witness the performance enhancements of FSR3, which the firm previewed in Forspoken at Gamescom last month.
FidelityFX Super Resolution 3 or AMD FSR3 is the most recent upscaling technology AMD introduced in November 2022 to rival Nvidia’s DLSS 3. It was predicted to debut in 2023 and incorporate FSR upscaling in addition to AMD’s Fluid Motion Video frame generation technology. It was assumed that Bethesda’s Starfield would support the most recent technology when reports about the introduction of FSR3 first surfaced, however, that was not the case.
AMD FSR3 support is still not available for Starfield, although DLSS support is planned.
With the Immortals of Aveum upgrade coming soon, AMD has now formally published the FSR3 update for Forspoken. Frank Azor, AMD’s chief architect for gaming solutions and marketing, tweeted last night that two FSR3-compatible titles would be released tomorrow.
Frame generation and the new “Native AA” quality mode are included with AMD FSR3. It generates frames for a smoother gaming experience using an improved version of the company’s Fluid Motion Frames (AFMF) optical flow technology. Forspoken’s frame rate on the Radeon RX 7900 XTX when playing at 4K with Ultra High settings jumps dramatically from 58 FPS (FSR3 off) to 201 FPS (FSR3 Performance Mode + Frame generation), according to statistics provided by the firm. The RX 6800 XT’s frame rate increased from 37 to 129. The RX 7600’s performance increased from 118 FPS to 38 FPS at 1440p.
AMD FSR3 has its latency reduction technique that will work with all GPUs to combat the latency caused by picture production, but the games must support it. In compatible games, the latency can be further decreased when combined with Anti-Lag+ technology.
Additionally, AMD has revealed that 12 more titles will feature AMD FSR3. Starfield, regrettably, is not one of them. This group of games includes Crimson Desert, Frostpunk 2, Space Marine 2, Black Myth Wukong, Eve Online, Cyberpunk 2077, and more. There is currently no schedule for when these titles will receive FSR3 support updates. Notably, the most recent patch for Cyberpunk 2077 added compatibility for DLSS 3.5.
