Houston Dynamo have won the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup, defeating Inter Miami 2-1 in the finals. Lionel Messi was not involved in the game and watched on from the sidelines due to an injury he picked up while he was with the Argentina national team.Â
Former Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba was also not involved in the game due to injury. The Dynamos were able to register a two-goal lead in the first half with Griffin Dorsey’s opening goal and Amine Bassi then converting a penalty to double his side’s lead before the two teams went into the break.Â

Josef Martinez scored a late goal to give his side a glimmer of hope in the final minutes of the game. But, it wasn’t enough even though they were able to earn a corner and push everybody up the field.
Houston last won the trophy in 2018 and have now won it for a second time in 2023. They are currently fourth in the Western Conference and are easily expected to make it to the MLS Playoffs this year.
On the other hand, Inter Miami have an outside chance of qualifying for the post season playoffs since they sit five points outside the qualifying spots. They will face New York City FC in their next game, in what could be a six-pointer for the pink and black side.
