Indian national team defender Sandesh Jhingan has come a long way. He is now the mainstay of the Indian defence. He is one of the most coveted Indian defenders.
His 2019-20 season was disrupted by injury but when he is fit, he adds value to any club with his defensive traits and the leadership he provides on the field.
Sandesh Jhingan won the Emerging Player of the League in the inaugural season of the Indian Super League in 2014. He has now been awarded the prestigious Arjuna award. He will be handed the prize on 29th August.
Arjuna Awards are given to honour excellence in sports by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports in India.

Jhingan has made 76 appearances for Kerala Blasters across the six seasons of ISL. He has established himself not only as a firm fan-favourite but also as a leader in the dressing room. He has now left Kerala Blasters and almost every ISL clubs want him but reportedly ATK Mohun Bagan FC leads the line.
Indian football legend Sukhwinder Singh will also be honoured with the Dhyan Chand Award at the National Sports Awards 2020.
Sukhwinder Singh has served as the Indian senior national team and the U-23 team coach. He becomes the third footballer to be awarded the Dhyan Chand Award. He has won the SAFF Championship with the senior team in 1998 and with the youth side in 2009.
