Upcoming Meta Smart Glasses to Enable Direct Livestreaming to Instagram

The initial iteration of Meta’s Ray-Ban glasses fell short of the success anticipated by Mark Zuckerberg and the Meta team, as reports suggest that merely about 10 percent of purchasers of the Ray-Ban Stories eyewear were engaging with them. To recapture the attention of those lost customers and attract new ones, Meta is gearing up to launch the Ray-Ban Stories 2.0. This upgraded version is set to bring several new features to the table. Notably, users will be able to live stream videos directly onto platforms like Instagram and Facebook, all while engaging with their viewers in real-time.

All About the Meta Smart Glasses

Firstly, the Meta smart glasses will enable wearers to live record videos and broadcast them, potentially revolutionizing content creation for influencers and journalists by eliminating the need for a separate camera. A built-in LED light will indicate when recording or livestreaming is in progress. Secondly, the Meta smart glasses will provide audio feedback, allowing users to listen to comments and reactions from their audience as they livestream their visual experiences. This audio interaction will be delivered through integrated headphones within the glasses’ frame.

Additionally, the next-gen Ray-Ban Stories are expected to adapt their audio playback volume based on the surrounding ambient noise levels, providing optimal sound quality in various environments. Hardware improvements are also on the horizon, with better cameras and extended battery life expected to enhance the overall performance and usage experience of the glasses.

The original Ray-Ban Stories were launched in September 2021, retailing at $299 (roughly Rs 25,000). While the second generation was initially slated for a fall release, official confirmation is pending. Looking ahead, a third-generation model is on track for a 2025 release, with potential features such as a display for incoming messages and text translation. However, Meta’s debut augmented reality glasses, codenamed Orion, are not anticipated to hit the market until 2027.
