Sergino Dest has completed a loan transfer to Dutch side PSV Eindhoven from Barcelona. Xavi had no plans to feature the right-back in his lineup for the coming season, and the defender has now completed a loan move back to the Eredivisie.
PSV will cover 50% of the player’s salary, while also having a buy option included as part of the deal valued at €10 million. Dest was one of the most sought-after defenders in the last few years, with Barcelona and Bayern battling for his signature when he was at Ajax. But, his time in Catalonia has not worked out and he is expected to pursue a new challenge now.
Sergino Dest signs for PSV Eindhoven on loan
“PSV were in touch with me every day and expressed a keen desire to get me on board, which was a good feeling,” the defender told the official PSV website.
“And on top of that, I like the style of football they play at PSV. I think it suits me very well. I return to the Netherlands. I’m still the same player but I’ve gained a lot of experience and I’ve hopefully acquired a higher efficiency. I can’t wait to make my debut.”
The USMNT international spent the 22/23 season on loan with AC Milan but was unable to play consistently for them. With Davide Calabria and Alessandro Florenzi ahead of him in the pecking order, he was not given a lot of playing time. But with PSV, things could be different if he can recapture his form at Ajax.
