Apple Watch X: Here’s everything we need so far

The Apple Watch X is believed to be released in 2024 or 2025, and it’s said to have a new design as well as a number of long-rumored functions such as blood pressure monitoring and even microLED display tech. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who first reported the existence of the Apple Watch X, predicts that the new smartwatch will most likely be released in “either 2024 or 2025.”

It’s worth remembering that the original Apple Watch was originally teased in 2014 before being released in April 2015, thus a release date in 2024 or 2025 for the X would make sense. When it comes to the Apple Watch X, we can expect it in either 2024 or 2025.

Apple typically releases its Watch series in September. With the exception of the first-generation Apple Watch and the Apple Watch Series 7, every Apple Watch has been announced in September.

It’s quite unlikely that Apple will change this with the Watch X unless manufacturing concerns create a minor delay, but it’s far too early to speculate on such a possibility.

For the time being, the Apple Watch X is expected to launch in either September 2024 or September 2025, though we’ll update this section if we learn otherwise.

There’s no indication on how much the Apple Watch X will cost just yet, but we can certainly speculate. It all boils down to whether the Watch X will be a direct replacement for the current watch lineup or a bridge between the Watch Series models and the top-tier Apple Watch Ultra.

When the iPhone X was released in 2017, Apple did something similar: rather than making it the de facto iPhone, it arrived alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus as a little more expensive option.

If Apple does the same thing here, it will almost certainly cost more than the £849/$799 Ultra model, but it will almost certainly cost more than the current Series 8’s basic £419/$399 price. That means it may cost anywhere between £419/$399 and £849/$799.

Given the Apple Watch X’s distinct branding, which is inextricably linked to the iPhone X, a dramatic overhaul of the next wearable is possible. With the exception of a few adjustments to the display and casing, Apple’s smartwatch line has virtually remained the same since 2015, so it’s something Apple enthusiasts will no doubt be excited about.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who first revealed the impending Apple Watch X, called it the “biggest overhaul yet,” featuring a “thinner watch case.” He also claims that designers “investigated changing the way bands are attached.”

According to Gurman’s sources with knowledge of the development, while switching bands on current models of Apple Watch is simple, it takes up a lot of space on the wearable – space that could be better filled with a larger battery of components.

Mark Gurman also speculates that the Apple Watch X will feature the long-rumored microLED display, and the timeframe corresponds to prior projections from Gurman and other industry analysts.

Sources such as DSCC CEO Ross Young, analyst Jeff Pu, and DigiTimes all point to the inclusion of microLED panels in the Apple Watch sometime in 2025, however none have hedged their bets on it appearing precisely on the Apple Watch X. At least not yet.

For years, rumours about Apple’s plans to add blood pressure monitoring to the Apple Watch have circulated, with the technology initially expected to debut on the Apple Watch Series 7. When it became evident that this was not the case, commentators referred to the Series 8. Yes, you guessed it, it didn’t make an appearance on Series 8.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, on the other hand, has long thought that the technology is still on the road, despite teething troubles and development hurdles, saying in April 2022 that it will likely be accessible in 2024. This not only corresponds with the Watch X’s release, but it’s also a feature Gurman specifically addressed in a recent edition of his Power On! Newsletter.

With AFib detection, high and low heart rate alarms, skin temperature readings, blood oxygen monitoring, and heart rate tracking, the existing Apple Watch Series 8 is a high-end health monitoring device, but blood pressure might take things to the next level.
