Netflix is expanding its gaming platform beyond mobile devices to include laptops and televisions. In a blog post published on Monday, the entertainment firm announced the launch of a beta test that will allow consumers to play games on Windows PCs, Macs, and TVs. The test, which is aimed at a restricted set of consumers in Canada and the United Kingdom, is Netflix’s first move towards making games available on huge devices.

During this initial release, beta testers will have the opportunity to try out two games. The first game is Oxenfree, a supernatural thriller developed by Night School Studio, a game studio under Netflix. The second game is Molehew’s Mining Adventure, an arcade game centered around gem-mining.

People will be able to use their smartphones as controllers to play games on TVs. On PCs and Macs, testers can control the games with a keyboard and mouse.

Netflix has been offering games since 2021, but they have only been available on mobile devices thus far.

Netflix customers will notice a Mobile Games category on the home page from which they may download and play a variety of titles on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device.

Netflix intends to use the limited beta to evaluate streaming technology and controller usability, as well as to improve the entire experience. The business stated that by making games available on additional platforms, it intends to make them more accessible to individuals all over the world.

Certain models or devices, such as Amazon Fire TV streaming media players, Chromecast with Google TV, Nvidia Shield TV, Roku devices and TVs, LG TVs, Samsung Smart TVs, and Walmart ONN, will be required to play games on a TV for the beta test. However, additional TVs and devices will be introduced in the future.
