Emily Blunt conveyed her enthusiasm for joining forces again with Tom Cruise in a follow-up to Edge of Tomorrow. In a Recent Happy Sad Confused Podcast Episode, She Unveiled Her Encounter with a Script for a Potential Sequel. In a playful manner, she suggested that Cruise already has numerous Mission: Impossible films and jokingly encouraged him to return to the role of the reluctant hero, which he portrayed brilliantly in the 2014 movie. Blunt mentioned, “There was one that Doug [Liman] kind of slid over to me. I mean, I would love to make it happen, but I’m uncertain about when or how. And how many Mission: Impossibles does he [Cruise] really need?”
All About Emily Blunt and Edge of Tomorrow Sequel
Edge of Tomorrow is set in a future where Earth is facing an onslaught from an alien race called the Mimics. These intelligent beings have the ability to anticipate and counter human military strategies, leading to devastating losses for humanity. In response, the United Defense Force (UDF) was established to combat the alien threat. The main character, Major William “Bill” Cage, portrayed by Cruise, is a military spokesperson with no combat experience.
He is unexpectedly ordered by a senior officer to participate in a major assault against the Mimics on the front. Despite his objections, Cage is thrust into battle and finds himself ill-prepared for the intense warfare. In the chaos of the fight, he manages to eliminate an unusually large and unique Mimic but is killed in the process.
However, Cage’s death triggers a perplexing phenomenon. He suddenly wakes up at the beginning of the same day, alive and well, while retaining all his memories. He discovers that he’s stuck in a time loop, reliving the same day repeatedly every time he dies. Through these iterative cycles, Cage gradually hones his combat skills and gains experience as a fighter.
During one of the loops, he encounters Sergeant Rita Vrataski, played by Emily Blunt, a renowned soldier known as the “Angel of Verdun,” who previously had a similar time loop experience but lost it. Rita recognizes that Cage has gained the ability to reset time and believes they can use it to locate and eliminate the Mimics’ central hive mind, which is the source of their predictive capabilities.
