OnePlus Introduces Lifetime Screen Warranty and Upgrade Discounts for Green Line Issue in India

In the past year, there has been a rising number of reports from consumers expressing dissatisfaction due to the emergence of persistent green lines on their AMOLED smartphones. An investigation into this matter revealed that this green line display anomaly predominantly impacts older AMOLED smartphones across a range of phone manufacturers, price segments, and operating systems.

All About the OnePlus Lifetime Screen Warranty

In response to the escalating complaints, OnePlus, a prominent smartphone manufacturer, has taken a significant step by providing customers in India with a lifetime warranty for their screens on affected devices. Furthermore, certain users may also qualify for a discounted upgrade.

A spokesperson from OnePlus conveyed to Android Authority that the company is introducing a “lifetime screen warranty on all affected devices.” It’s important to note that this policy currently pertains exclusively to customers in India. OnePlus has also clarified that the “lifetime screen warranty” applies to any OnePlus phone affected by the green line issue in India, encompassing a wide range of models, not just specific ones.

A Telegram user directed the focus to multiple notices displayed at OnePlus Exclusive Service Centers. These notifications apprised customers of a special discount for those who are experiencing the green line problem and are eligible for an upgrade.

According to these notifications, OnePlus is extending upgrade discounts to owners of OnePlus 8 Pro, 8T, 9, and 9R models who are experiencing the green line defect, providing them with a voucher for upgrading to a new OnePlus smartphone.

OnePlus confirmed the authenticity of these upgrade discounts but reiterated that, for now, they are exclusively applicable to India. The availability of spare parts at specific stores also plays a role in these discounts, as some locations might still be able to conduct screen replacements.

Individuals seeking replacement devices are required to conduct their purchases exclusively through the OnePlus India website, as opposed to other offline or online retailers. Additionally, choosing the India-exclusive OnePlus 10R holds an added advantage, as the company is extending an extra discount for this model.

The company’s announcement reveals that due to approaching the end of the affected devices’ lifecycle, there is a shortage of spare parts. As a result, to prevent leaving consumers with no recourse, the company is providing a degree of relief.

With the introduction of the lifetime screen warranty and the assurance of device replacements at specific outlets, Indian users considering transitioning to a new OnePlus smartphone can now do so with a sense of relief.

Notably, the announcement does not outline the condition of use for the affected phone. In some cases, especially for older devices that might not fetch a good resale value due to improper handling, it could be in the best interest of consumers to opt for a phone upgrade.

Certain phone models are excluded from the upgrade offer. Devices like the OnePlus 8, 9 Pro, and the entire OnePlus 10 and 11 series are not mentioned, indicating that these devices might not be as severely impacted by the issue or that the company possesses sufficient spare parts to fulfill its obligations regarding screen replacements.
