Dead Island 2 gets a new Mod for DLSS 2 for PC

The popular PC game Dead Island 2 only supports AMD FSR 2 and does not support native NVIDIA DLSS 2. PotatoOfDoom, a modder, has made a mod that fixes this issue. The mod may be downloaded from Nexus Mods and installed simply by extracting the files into the same folder as the DeadIsland-Win64-Shipping.exe file.

PotatoOfDoom earlier accomplished the same feat with SEGA’s Judgement, which later acquired native DLSS support. Dead Island 2 is expected to receive similar assistance in the future.

Despite the lack of native DLSS 2 support, Dead Island 2 performs admirably. Performance is generally strong, with just minor stuttering difficulties.

This is due in part to shaders caching before the game begins, as well as the lower size of the game’s maps. However, there are some stutters during navigation and cutscenes, which might be annoying.

Maintaining reasonable performance while increasing the resolution was more difficult without NVIDIA DLSS support, especially given the system’s limited VRAM (i7-10700 CPU, 16GB RAM, RTX 3070 GPU). To some extent, the use of AMD FSR helps minimize this.

Dead Island 2 performed nicely at 4K resolution with medium settings, averaging 75 frames per second with FSR set to the Balanced option. The performance improved dramatically at 1440p resolution, averaging 100 FPS with high settings and no need for FSR. However, at both 1440p and 4K resolutions, AMD FidelityFX Variable Rate Shading did not deliver substantial performance gains.

Dead Island 2 had a tremendous debut, being Deep Silver’s biggest release ever in terms of both sales units and total income. This bodes well for the franchise’s future, which has been inactive for a long time. Two expansions are scheduled for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2023 and the second quarter of 2024.
