Roma and Brighton are both interested in signing Scott McTominay from Manchester United this summer. The midfielder is likely to leave the club in search of more playing time, especially after the arrival of Mason Mount.Â
Erik Ten Hag has settled with Casemiro at the base of the team’s defensive midfield, and Mount is now expected to play as a box-to-box midfielder. The presence of Christian Eriksen and Fred in the team as well will restrict the amount of minutes the Scotland international is able to get on the pitch. As a result, a move away is the most probable solution.
Scott McTominay on Roma and Brighton’s radarÂ
Brighton are keen on replacing Moises Caicedo with another defensive midfielder. Their number 25 is likely to join Chelsea after agreeing personal terms with them. And he would be a like-for-like replacement in the team. On the other hand, Roma could also deploy to play alongside former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic, or even as a rotational option for him.
Jose Mourinho is fond of the 26-year-old from his time at Old Trafford, and is open to reuniting with him at the Italian capital. However, United will likely want a sizable fee to sell the player in spite of his seemingly limited role.
Newcastle United could also join the race as it now seems that they will not be able to sign Khephren Thuram from Nice. Scott McTominay has not yet agreed a contract with any club, but could push to leave if a good offer arrives.
