The new Liverpool number 7 shirt wearer has now been confirmed.
The number 7 was last worn by James Milner, who recently completed a free transfer to Brighton and Hove Albion. The midfielder is one of the modern icons of the club, having won every available trophy with them. However, the club decided not to renew his contract any further and move him on.Â
As a result, his departure has vacated the number 7 shirt which has now been reassigned.
Who is the new Liverpool number 7 shirt wearer?
Liverpool’s new number 7 is none other than Luis Diaz. The winger has missed the last six months due to an injury, but was able to return from a long spell on the sidelines before the end of the season. The Colombian recently scored against Germany in a friendly as well, beating them at home.
Diaz has worn the number 23 shirt since signing for Liverpool. But, he will now be wearing the Liverpool number 7 shirt. There were expectations that Darwin Nunez might take up the number 7 since the Uruguayan has been wearing number 27 since arriving from Benfica. However, it now seems that he will be staying with 27.
The Merseyside club recently announced Alexis Mac Allister as their new number 10. Moreover, the number 9 shirt still remains unoccupied after the departure of Roberto Firmino at the end of the 22/23 season, upon the expiry of his contract.
