Is Thiago Alcantara heading for Liverpool?

Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Thiago Alcantara has informed the club that he wants to leave Allianz Arena this summer. The Spanish international is looking to try something new.

Alcantara is a La Masia, Barcelona’s youth academy product. He played 4 years in LaLiga for the Blaugranas but when Pep Guardiola took over at Bayern Munich he signed Alcanata for Bayern. He has now spent 7 seasons at Bayern winning the Bundesliga in each of his seasons.

The 29-year-old wants to try something new at the end of his career so maybe he would like to play in the Premier League. Champions Liverpool seems to be his next destination. Liverpool would definitely benefit from the addition of such a quality playmaker in the middle of the park.

German football expert Rafa Honigstein told Sky Sports that Liverpool keeping quiet on this transfer rumour may turn out to be a transfer strategy for signing Alcantara.

Honigstein said: “There’s been no firm offer yet from anyone, but Bayern are bracing themselves for Liverpool because that’s the rumour in the dressing room. But we haven’t seen any offer yet and Liverpool have distanced themselves from making a move for Thiago. That could just be part of their strategy, but Bayern are more or less resigned to him leaving.”

Alcantara has been so good in the middle of the park for Bayern in all these years. He is considered as one of the best passers in Europe. All the Liverpool midfielders like Henderson, Keita and Wijnaldum are hardworking players but they lack quality on the ball which Alcantara has in plenty.

Honigstein further added: “In Germany, they are saying that if Liverpool buy Thiago, they’ll win every game next year! He’s just been so good. If there’s one player they’re missing in that midfield it’s that technical player. More of a creator and a dribbler… somebody who scores spectacular goals and can find a pass. It’s not a player that Liverpool have accommodated in recent years and it would change the dynamic of their midfield if you find space for him.”

“But in terms of real quality, technique and unique skills any club in the world should be in for him. If Liverpool get him in the summer when the traditional powerhouses on the continent can’t do it, the deal would be an absolute steal for the kind of money Bayern are talking about – £25m.”

Liverpool can sign Alcantara from Bayern Munich for a steal price. But Liverpool has a different transfer strategy unlike other top European clubs so they may also decide to wait one year and then try to sign him on a free transfer. But this move may prove to be a bit risky because many top European clubs want him and won’t hesitate to pay a good amount of money once the financial crisis of the football world is over.

Alcantara still has at least two-three years of his peak time left. He wants to experience new thing and Liverpool is on the rise. He would definitely want to sign for the Premier League winners. So Liverpool should not delay the transfer and sign him this summer.
