AMD brings two new auto-qualified devices for edge sensors

Edge sensors such as LiDAR, radar, and 3D surround-view camera systems are gaining traction in the automotive market, particularly in autonomous driving applications. As the demand for more sensors in autonomous systems increases, there is a growing need for faster signal processing, cost reduction, and smaller form factors. Functional safety is also crucial for these autonomous applications.

Introducing AMD Automotive XA Artix™ UltraScale+™ Family for Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) Sensor Applications

To address these market needs, AMD has announced two new additions to its AMD Automotive XA Artix™ UltraScale+™ family: the XA AU10P and XA AU15P cost-optimized processors. These processors are automotive-qualified and optimized for advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) sensor applications. With the Artix UltraScale+ devices, AMD expands its portfolio of highly scalable FPGA and adaptive SoCs, which already includes the automotive-grade Spartan™ 7, Zynq™ 7000, and Zynq UltraScale+ product families.

The XA Artix UltraScale+ processors are certified for functional safety up to ASIL-B, meeting the critical safety requirements for automotive ADAS sensors, from cameras to LiDARs. This certification enables our customers, including car manufacturers, robotaxi developers, and Tier 1 suppliers, to accelerate the development of autonomous vehicles.

Ian Riches, Vice President of the Global Automotive Practice at TechInsights, emphasized the increasing importance of safety in automotive systems and the demand for ASIL-B certification in LiDAR, radar, and smart edge sensor applications. He commended AMD for its commitment and investment in providing the latest functional safety solutions for the automotive market.

Leading companies in the automotive industry, including a prominent LiDAR company, are already designing next-generation ADAS edge systems based on the new XA Artix UltraScale+ devices. These devices enable sensor fusion, allowing automotive designers to incorporate data from multiple edge sensors and perform image and video processing before transmitting it to an external SoC. Furthermore, the XA Artix UltraScale+ devices can be connected to multiple displays in the vehicle, enhancing infotainment features.

The cost-optimized XA Artix FPGAs are now shipping, offering high serial bandwidth and signal compute density in an ultra-compact form factor. These Artix UltraScale+ devices maximize system performance for cost-sensitive and low-power ADAS edge applications, including networking, vision and video processing, and secure connectivity, thanks to their DSP bandwidth capabilities.
