Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 surpasses Apple’s A16 Bionic by 11% in new multicore test

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was previously tested on an engineering unit, and leaked Geekbench 5 single-core and multi-core results revealed that Qualcomm’s upcoming SoC easily outperformed the A16 Bionic in both tests.

Apple’s current flagship chipset was supposed to have an advantage against the competition with the arrival of Geekbench 6, which includes tests that aim to represent real-world workloads, but in the latest scores, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 gets the better of it again.

According to the most recent findings, Twitter user @korean_riceball shared an image of the Geekbench 6 results, which show that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 scored 2,563 and 7,256, respectively. We were surprised when we compared the A16 Bionic’s scores, which were 2,528 and 6,502 in single-core and multi-core, respectively, because the latest benchmark update is significantly different from its predecessor.

An increase of 11% in multi-core results is no laughing matter for the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, especially when compared to the A16 Bionic, which is known for its single and multi-threaded prowess. One reason for such promising results could be Qualcomm’s apparent decision to include more performance cores in the upcoming SoC release.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is said to have one Cortex-X4 super core and five other performance cores.

The CPU cluster is said to be a ‘1 + 5 + 2’ affair, with Qualcomm using fewer efficiency cores this year than when the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was announced. While these Geekbench 6 results are impressive, the solution for the the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 to keep its thermals under control is TSMC’s N4P process, which is an improved iteration of the company’s N4, or 4nm architecture, aimed at increasing efficiency. These benefits should give Qualcomm enough wiggle room to allow the upcoming flagship SoC to perform well while keeping temperatures under control.

In terms of AnTuTu results, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 achieves a score of 1.7 million, which is nothing to scoff at, with the GPU accounting for the majority of the score. We will, of course, provide numerous comparisons in the coming days, and we cannot wait for the actual commercial units to arrive.

Unfortunately, Qualcomm’s joy may be fleeting, as Apple is preparing the world’s first 3nm chipset, the A17 Bionic, for release in the fourth quarter, so it will be interesting to see how it performs when found in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.
