Manisha Kalyan becomes first Indian woman to win a European League

Manisha Kalyan has become the first Indian woman to win a European Championship. Her club, Apollon Limassol has won the 22/23 Cypriot Women’s League, leading to the incredible feat for the Indian forward.

This is yet another achievement for the former Gokulam Kerala player, who also became the first to play in the UEFA Women’s Champions League last year.

Kalyan made 17 appearances in the league, and scored six goals to help her side to the league title. She earned a transfer to the Cyprus-based club last year after a remarkable spell with Gokulam. And she has been able to hit the next level in her career with her latest achievement.

She was named the Women’s Emerging Player of the Year by the AIFF in 2020/21, and has been living up to her potential so far. At only 21 years of age, there is still a long way to go for the young attacking midfielder.

She has another year left to play with Apollon, and could be set for a new deal if the board decides to reward her contribution to the team further.
