Despite being mostly identified with the Parsi community, Novruz or Navroz is a holiday that is observed throughout the Black Sea Basin, the South Caucasus, the Middle East, and Northern, Western, Central, and South Asia. The first day of the Iranian calendar and the start of the Persian New Year is Novruz. The spring equinox, which occurs on March 21 or 22, is traditionally the day when the event is celebrated.
The Persian word Navroz, which literally means “new day,” derives from the phrases “Nav” and “Roz,” both of which signify new. In the last 3,000 years, Zoroastrians and Iranians have been the main sources of Navroz’s history. Many rituals and practices are observed to mark this occasion, which is revered as a time of renewal and rebirth.
