Joao Cancelo will not be staying at Bayern Munich beyond the ongoing season. The player has joined from Manchester City on a straight loan, with a buy option valued at €70 million.
However, since he is seen as a more traditional full-back, he doesn’t fully fit into Julian Nagelsmann’s system. As a result, Bayern are not willing to spend a lot of money to sign him permanently and will keep Josip Stanisic as their right-back alongside Benjamin Pavard, unless the latter is sold.
Joao Cancelo to Barcelona ruled out due to FFP
The right-back was offered to Real Madrid during the January transfer window, as well as Barcelona. However, the Catalonian side could not complete the transfer due to FFP restrictions. They had already signed several players during the summer transfer window, and had no more space in their squad.
Barcelona are once again interested in Joao Cancelo when he becomes available in the summer. It remains to be seen whether Manchester City will consider keeping him next year. However, the player’s response on being left out of games could make it difficult for Pep Guardiola to reincorporate him into the team.
Since he has several years left on his contract, the move in the summer could also be a loan. But, it would be a long awaited move, as he once played for Valencia and was a target for the Spanish giants in the past.
