Counter-Strike 2 version is confirmed to be in the development

According to reports, a new Counter-Strike Source 2 version is in the works, and a beta will be available soon. Last week, ‘Gabefollower,’ a well-known Valve leaker and content creator, noticed the inclusion of two new executables within the latest NVIDIA drivers – “csgos2.exe” and “cs2.exe,” presumably referring to Counter-Strike Global Offensive 2 and Counter-Strike 2. After this intriguing tidbit was discovered, rumours about a new Counter-Strike resurfaced like mushrooms after rain.

After a week, reputable esports journalist and tournament host Richard Lewis has stated that various sources have approached him about a new Counter-Strike version within the Source 2 engine.

Not only that, but Lewis claims that a beta for the new Counter-Strike 2 is coming up soon, possibly as soon as later this month.

It’s unclear whether this new Counter-Strike is truly Counter-Strike 2, or simply an updated version of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive running on Valve’s new Source 2 engine. Of course, this isn’t an official confirmation that Valve will release a new Counter-Strike, but the latest indications suggest that it will.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, or CS:GO, was released in 2012 for a variety of platforms and is based on Valve’s older Source engine. The successor to this engine, Source 2, was announced in 2015, with DOTA 2 being the first game to use it. Half-Life: Alyx, the publisher’s Half-Life VR title set five years before the events of the ever-popular Half-Life 2, is another popular title that runs on Valve’s engine.
