Marcelo signs for Fluminense until December 2024

Marcelo has returned to his boyhood club, Fluminense, after leaving Olympiacos by mutual consent earlier this month. The left-back spent only five months in Greece before deciding to move on, with injuries and suspensions preventing him from continuing further.

He has now gone back to Brazil, where he started his career. Marcelo played for the Fluminense youth team between 2002 and 2005, before making the move up to the first team. After 30 appearances, and winning the Campeonato Carioca and the Taca Rio, he signed for Real Madrid – where he established himself as a club legend.

The Brazilian is the most decorated player in Real Madrid’s history, winning 25 trophies over 15 seasons with Los Blancos. He made 546 appearances for the Spanish giants, and moved on at the end of his contract in the summer.

‘It’s even difficult to express the meaning that this moment represents for me,’ the veteran wrote on his social media accounts.

‘I’ve been dreaming of returning to my origins for many years, to the team that trained me and taught me what I know about football.’

Marcelo has signed a contract with Fluminense until December 2024, with the option to renew until 2025. His signing has been officially announced by the club, and his second debut can be expected soon.
