Southampton have announced Ruben Selles as their head coach until the end of the 22/23 season. He took charge of the first team after the dismissal of Nathan Jones, who only spent three months before being sacked.

The Saints announced their decision in a brief statement posted to their website: “Southampton Football Club can today confirm that Rubén Sellés has been appointed as Men’s First Team Manager until the end of the 2022/23 season.”

Ruben Selles becomes Southampton manager until the end of 22/23

The Spaniard was able to defeat Chelsea 1-0 at Stamford Bridge in his first game in charge, and will be facing Leeds United in his next game.

He has managed to convince the board with his tactics and vision for the club, and they have decided to give him a chance to implement his ideas. Now, he is tasked with getting the club out of the bottom of the table.

Southampton currently sit at 20th but are only two points from safety. As a result, there is a very real chance that they could turn things around and escape the relegation zone.

Jesse Marsch was one of the names linked as the permanent replacements for Nathan Jones. However, that plan has been shelved and Selles has been chosen as the man to lead the first team for the time being.
