The Frenchman’s future seems uncertain as it was previously but suffering from injury again now has made the Barcelona board impatient. His knee problems existed after his world cup winning campaign, after which we never really Samuel Umtiti’s true potential.

Barcelona is now stuck with Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet who are really playing excellent football at the heart of defence while being helped by the young Ronald Araujo. FC Barcelona needs two centre backs, a world-class defender to replace Umtiti and a young one to replace the ageing Gerard Pique. The La Masia graduate, Eric Garcia, who is currently at Manchester City is on Barca’s radar and will be pursued for a transfer next season.

The Blaugrana club already wants to sell a lot of players to reduce its salary wages and offloading Umtiti at the end of this season is a thought that has struck the mind of the Barcelona board. So, Sport has come out with a report that the club wants to bring in a new top-level defender by showing the door to the 26-year-old Frenchman.

Coming to Umtiti, he has been rejecting any exit option outright and has already left Barça who is very comfortable at the club and in the city and who will do everything possible to recover. Though Umtiti could have a market in England, for now, the interests seem to be coming from clubs in Italy from the likes of Napoli, Lazio, Roma and Torino.

Barcelona is also thinking that Seria A could be the perfect destination for Umtiti because they believe that the teams play well tucked behind and the physical demand for the centre-backs is lower than in Spain. Umtiti knows the current situation at the club and so he is trying to recover himself again and the board also feels any decision will be taken at the end of the season.
