Hogwarts Legacy is set in the late 1800s, before the Harry Potter books and films, and during the tenure of Phineas Nigellus Black as Headmaster of Hogwarts. Sirius Black, Bellatrix Lestrange, and Narcissa Malfoy are all descended from Phineas. Readers of the book may recall that Phineas’s portrait at Hogwarts would leak information about Harry, Ron, and Hermione to Snape. Phineas is played by Simon Pegg, and he is notable for not caring about the position of headmaster, but rather accepting it for the prestige.
Warner Bros. Games has announced the platforms for Hogwarts Legacy as PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. On August 24, 2022, the Hogwarts Legacy Collector’s Edition was released. The limited edition bundle includes everything from the Hogwarts Legacy Deluxe Edition, including 72 hours of early access and the Dark Arts Pack, as well as a slew of other exclusive content. You’ll receive an Onyx Hippogriff Mount, a Kelpie Robe to outfit your character, a steel case to keep the game in, and a life-size floating Ancient Magic Wand with Book Base.
The setting of Hogwarts Legacy extends beyond the grounds of the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
Because Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world experience, we’ll be able to visit nearby locations like the Forbidden Forest and Hogsmeade Village – as well as some entirely new locations that Warner Bros. Games has yet to reveal. Naturally, the fully-realized Hogwarts Castle is the main draw, especially since we’ll be able to attend classes, develop our magical abilities, brew potions, tame magical beasts, explore Hogwarts’ hidden dungeons and secret passageways, and participate in challenging puzzles scattered throughout the school.
From what we’ve seen of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay, it’s clear that developer Avalanche Software is constructing a sprawling action-RPG set in the larger Harry Potter universe. You’ll be able to create your own character, assign them to a house, and then role-play as a Hogwarts student. In classes, you will learn new magical abilities and how to brew potions, and out in the world, you will face off against creatures and dark powers in wand-to-wand combat, levelling up your skills and equipment as you gain new experience.
The Hogwarts Legacy release date is set for February 10, 2023 for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC. There will be a 72-hour early access period beginning on February 7, 2023 for pre-order customers.
