Chelsea have not given up on their pursuit of Enzo Fernandez yet. The Blues have made a new offer for him, in hopes of getting through to the club and landing their top transfer target.
Benfica have been insistent on the player’s €120 million release clause. However, Chelsea are proposing a payment plan in instalments instead of the amount in one go. Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali are personally working on the move, and are waiting to hear back from the Portuguese side.
Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea could still be on
The Benfica board alongside their president, Rui Costa, is meeting to decide whether or not they will accept the offer. The Argentine was named the Young Player of the Tournament at the 2022 World Cup, and this might be the best deal that they get for him.
The Premier League club has been pushing for the transfer to go through. And after two meetings in the last 24 hours, things finally seem to be moving towards a deal being agreed.
Personal terms are not an issue, as Enzo has already accepted Chelsea’s proposal and project. The only barrier to the switch taking place is the agreement between the two clubs. Once that is in place, he will be able to make the move to Stamford Bridge.
However, with Rui Costa declaring that Benfica have no intentions to sell Fernandez, it could be an agreement to sell in the summer. Which could mean that the player spends the rest of the season in Portugal before moving to England next season.
