Indian veteran cricketer Murali Vijay announced his retirement today from international cricket in all formats. He represented India in a total of 87 matches and scored 4490 runs. He has mostly played in the Test format and repressed India in 61 matches. He played 17 ODIs and 9 T20Is for the Indian team. He confirmed his retirement via a tweet.

Murali Vijay was considered to be one of the iconic Test openers when he was at his peak. He has scored 12 centuries and 15 half-centuries and his best score was 167 against Australia in Hyderabad in 2013.

Murali Vijay was an important member of India’s Test squad for five years between 2013 to 2018. From 2013 December to 2015 January he played test matches away from home and scored the most runs for his team with an average of more than 40.

Indian cricketer Murali Vijay retires from all formats of international cricket

In 2022 June, in the Tamil Nadu Premiere League, Murali Vijay stated that he desires to play “as long as possible”. He hasn’t yet been notified of he will be playing in the T20 league around the world but he has retired from all formats of international cricket.

In the Indian premiere League (IPL), he has been a part of 106 games. He has played for Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals), Punjab Kings, and Chennai Super Kings. he was part of CSK when the franchise won the title in 2010 and 2011. In the finale of 2011, he bagged the Player of the match award as he scored 95 runs in 52 deliveries in the final game against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In IPL, he notched up 2619 runs in the IPL with two centuries and 13 half-centuries. he has also played for Essex and Somerset in the English County Championship.

Murali Vijay played first-class cricket and List-A cricket for Tamil Nadu till 2019. In IPL, he was last seen in CSK in 2020.
