Leicester City have confirmed the signing of their first Brazilian player, Tete, from Shakhtar Donetsk. The winger has been signed on a loan deal until the end of the season, and he is expected to return to the Ukrainian club in July.
He will be wearing the number 37 shirt as confirmed by the official website of the club. He previously spent time with Ligue 1 club Lyon, and now moves to the Premier League for a new challenge under Brendan Rodgers.
Tete signs for Leicester City on loan
“I’m really happy to be here. I’ve had a look at the pitch and the stadium, it’s beautiful and I can already imagine what it’ll be like with a lot of fans. I hope to score a lot of goals and assists. I hope they’ll all be happy to see me play, I’m happy to be a Fox,” Tete told Leicester City’s official website.
The 22-year-old has represented Brazil at several youth levels, and played 19 times for Lyon in 22/23. He produced a good return of six goals and three assists, and will be hoping to bring his form over to Leicester, who need a boost in attack.
After emerging as contenders for Europe in the last few seasons, Leicester City have suffered quite a bit this year. They are currently 14th in the table and are only a point from the relegation zone.
Tete is the second signing for the Foxes after the arrival of Danish left-back Victor Kristiansen. And it now remains to be seen whether the pair can help them improve their performances in the second half of the season.
