Indian Bank unveils the QR Code bill payment system for CESC

Indian Bank unveiled the QR Code bill payment system for Mysuru-based Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation Limited (CESC) on Friday. Indian Bank, on the occasion, said CESC has become the first power distribution company (DISCOM) in Karnataka to implement Dynamic QR linked to Unified Payments Interface (UPI) on printed electricity bills.

The customers can scan the QR code on the bill with any other UPI-linked bank app and pay their bills without visiting any online site or physical payment centre. Instant acknowledgement is issued and the QR code is disabled once the transaction is completed.

Shri. V Sunil Kumar, Minister of Energy of Karnataka, graced the occasion by unveiling the QR Code solution in presence of Shri Kumar Naik, Additional Chief Secretary for Power, Karnataka, Shri Jayavibhava Swamy, Managing Director, CESC and Shri Sudhir Kumar Gupta, Field General Manager, Indian Bank.

Shri Jayavibhava Swamy expressed that CESC is a pioneer in adapting new technologies and innovations. Besides, CESC is in the process of introducing a new type of bill generation and payment system in coordination with Indian Bank besides a facility to make RTGS or NEFT payments for the bulk consumer using a Virtual account number(VAN) through the Bank too.

Shri. Sudhir Kumar Gupta emphasized the need of having easy and secure digital payment systems to provide customers with a hassle-free payment experience. Introduction of the Dynamic QR Code and VAN Payment are Indian Bank’s steps in this line. Such automation eventually brings the benefits of instant payments, digital receipts and cost savings by reducing manual intervention, he said.
