Chelsea have confirmed the arrival of David Datro Fofana from Norwegian club Molde. The striker will be registered as part of the first team on January 1, when the transfer window is open for business.
The final fee agreed for the youngster is €12 million, and a long-term contract has been agreed. The striker has also passed the medical assessment prior to being announced as a new arrival for the West London side.
David Datro Fofana arrival confirmed by Chelsea
“Chelsea FC has reached a pre-agreement with Molde FK for the transfer of David Datro Fofana,” the club’s official website confirmed.
“The 20-year-old striker will join the Blues on 1 January 2023. We look forward to welcoming David to the club!”
The player has been in fine form for Molde this season, scoring 15 goals and providing five assists in 24 games. And his arrival will give Graham Potter an extra forward to play, with Armando Broja ruled out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Kai Havertz are the only other natural centre-forwards in the line-up. And Fofana could help add a new dynamic to the team, even though he could be considered a player for the future due to his age. It now remains to be seen whether he will be fielded by Potter in the big games coming up ahead.
