WhatsApp, a Meta-owned messaging platform, is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to report status updates on desktop beta. According to WABetaInfo, the new feature will allow users to report a status update directly from a new menu in the status area.
With the new option, users will be able to report any suspicious status updates that may violate the Terms of Service to the moderation team. The status update, like the reporting messages, will be given to the firm for moderation so that they can see whether there is a violation. This functionality, however, does not compromise end-to-end encryption.
Nobody, not even WhatsApp or Meta, can access the content of users’ messages or listen in on their private calls, but it is critical for the firm to have a report option in order to keep the platform and users secure.
According to the source, the ability to report status updates is in the works and will be included in a future update of WhatsApp Desktop beta. Meanwhile, the messaging platform released a new feature to certain beta testers last month that allows users to see profile images within group chats on a desktop.
